Dr. Thom V Tyson, President and CEO of Canadian Health Systems Inc has been nominated for the prestigious Physician IT Leadership Award 2010, recognizing his dedication to improving the practice environment for community-based physicians, and improving access to care for patients through the meaningful use of EMR and practice automation technology.
Dr. Tyson is credited with designing, developing and introducing into clinical use several significant innovations that have put Canadian doctors at the forefront of North American technological innovation including:
1. Canada’s first self-registration kiosk technology, 2001
2. Canada’s first translational patient triage interface, 2003
3. Canada’s first internet based ‘real-time wait-times’ tool for patients, 2004
Dr. Tyson has worked in close collaboration with Dr. Tim Bell, Medical Director of the Appletree Medical Group and co-founder of Canadian Health Systems Inc., and their development team in developing the EMRAdvantage system, which is recognized as one of the best designed and ‘highest ease of use’ tablet-optimized EMR systems in North America.
